SLOAN PETERSON RATS

Sloan Peterson has revealed a new track and video in the form of 'Rats'. The new project from Sydney-based songwriter Joe Jackson, it is a cut that comes from a forthcoming, self-titled EP, due 8 September via Mirror Records. Speaking of the track Jackson says, "'Rats' was written about low-lifes who wanna make something out of themselves, ratbags and teenagers who are on their own in a big city,” explains Jackson. “I had a pretty rough couple of years between 13-16 living up in Brisbane, being involved with bad company, never attending school among other horrible situations, and this song speaks to how I was feeling after coming out of such a whirlwind, trying to start all over again in Sydney by myself at only 16." With influences ranging from Elvis to Latin legend Xavier Cugat or the fashion statements of Nancy Sinatra and Bowie, it's a brilliant statement of intent from the exciting newcomer. -G.O'B
